Bowl Championship Series
The Bowl Championship Series (BCS) was a system used in American college football from 1998 to 2013 to determine a national champion. It ranked the top teams based on a combination of polls and computer algorithms, aiming to match the two highest-ranked teams in a championship game. The BCS also included major bowl games, providing a structured postseason for elite teams. It replaced the traditional rankings and was succeeded by the College Football Playoff system, which now uses a selection committee to determine playoff participants and champion. The BCS aimed to create more competitive and exciting matchups in college football.
