BCS (Bowl Championship Series)

The BCS (Bowl Championship Series) was a college football system used from 1998 to 2013 to determine the top two teams nationally and select major bowl game matchups. It combined computer rankings, human polls, and other factors to evaluate team performance throughout the season. The goal was to ensure the two best teams faced off in the national championship game. Despite its efforts, the BCS faced criticism for not always matching the top teams and for its reliance on algorithms. It was replaced in 2014 by the College Football Playoff system, which uses a selection committee to pick the top four teams for a postseason tournament.
