Bombards
Bombards are large artillery pieces used primarily during the Middle Ages. They were designed to launch heavy projectiles, such as stones or metal balls, at fortifications and enemy troops. Their construction involved thick, reinforced materials to withstand the immense pressures of firing. Bombards played a significant role in siege warfare, as they could breach walls that were previously defensible. Their use marked a shift in military strategies, emphasizing the importance of gunpowder and heavy artillery in combat. A famous example of a bombard is the "Dulle Griete," which was used during the siege of Ghent in the 15th century.
