body fluid compartments
Body fluid compartments refer to the different areas where the body's fluids are distributed. About 60% of your body weight is water, which is found mainly inside cells (intracellular fluid) and outside cells in the bloodstream and tissues (extracellular fluid). The extracellular compartment includes plasma (the liquid part of blood) and interstitial fluid (the fluid between cells). These compartments are separated by cell membranes and other barriers, allowing fluids and nutrients to move where needed. Proper balance among these compartments is vital for functions like nutrient transport, waste removal, and maintaining blood pressure.
