Blue Baby Syndrome

Blue Baby Syndrome, also known as cyanosis, occurs when a baby’s blood has insufficient oxygen, causing the skin and lips to appear bluish. It often results from congenital heart defects that affect blood circulation or from breathing problems that prevent enough oxygen from entering the blood. In some cases, exposure to high levels of nitrates in drinking water or certain medications can also contribute. The condition signals that the body isn't getting enough oxygen, which requires prompt medical attention to diagnose and treat the underlying cause to prevent complications.
