Blood Clotting

Blood clotting, or coagulation, is a natural process that stops bleeding when blood vessels are injured. When a vessel is damaged, the body activates platelets, small blood cells that gather at the injury site, forming a temporary plug. Simultaneously, a series of chemical reactions occur, converting fibrinogen (a blood protein) into fibrin threads. These threads weave through the platelet plug, creating a stable clot that seals the wound. Once healing is complete, the body dissolves the clot. This process is vital for preventing excessive blood loss and maintaining overall circulatory health.
