Bitumen Distillation

Bitumen distillation is a process used to separate different components of crude oil. The crude oil is heated in a distillation tower, where it vaporizes at high temperatures. As the vapor rises, it cools and condenses back into liquids at various levels of the tower, each containing different substances. The heavier fractions, rich in bitumen, are collected at the bottom, while lighter fractions, like gasoline, are collected higher up. This process is essential for producing materials like asphalt for roads and roofing, as bitumen is a thick, sticky substance derived from this separation.
