Biological invasion
A biological invasion occurs when a species is introduced to a new environment, either intentionally or accidentally, where it is not native. If this species establishes itself, spreads, and causes harm to local ecosystems, native species, agriculture, or even human health, it is called an invasive species. These invasions often happen through global trade, travel, or habitat alteration. Invasive species can outcompete native plants and animals for resources, disrupt ecological balance, and lead to a loss of biodiversity. Managing invasives involves preventing introductions and controlling their spread to protect healthy ecosystems.
