Bhudan Yajna

The Bhoodan Yajna, initiated by Vinoba Bhave in 1951, was a social movement in India aimed at land redistribution. It encouraged landowners to voluntarily donate portions of their land to landless farmers. The movement arose from the need to address agrarian inequality and promote social justice. Bhave believed that sharing land could alleviate poverty and enhance rural livelihoods. This act of generosity was termed "Bhoodan," meaning "gift of land." The movement gained significant support, inspiring many landowners to contribute, and while it faced challenges, it played a vital role in raising awareness about land reform in India.
