Bhola Cyclone 1970

The Bhola Cyclone of 1970 was a devastating storm that struck East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) and West Bengal, India, on November 12, 1970. It was one of the deadliest tropical cyclones ever, with winds exceeding 115 mph. The storm caused a massive storm surge that flooded coastal areas, destroying homes and infrastructure. Over 300,000 people died, mainly due to flooding and resulting disease. The disaster highlighted the region's vulnerability to severe weather and contributed to significant political changes in East Pakistan, eventually leading to Bangladesh’s independence.
