Beta-2 Agonists
Beta-2 agonists are medications that help open the airways in the lungs by relaxing the muscles around the bronchial tubes. Often used to treat asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), they quickly relieve breathing difficulty by making it easier to breathe. These drugs work by stimulating specific receptors called beta-2 receptors in the lungs, leading to airway dilation. Common examples include albuterol and salmeterol. They are typically inhaled for fast relief or long-term control, helping patients breathe more comfortably and reducing the severity of asthma or COPD symptoms.
