Berlin Decree

The Berlin Decree, issued in 1806 by Napoleon Bonaparte, was a military order that aimed to weaken Britain during the Napoleonic Wars. It declared that European countries allied with Britain or trading with Britain should stop all trade and communication with the British, effectively imposing a blockade designed to hurt Britain's economy. This decree also targeted neutral countries by restricting their trade with Britain. It was part of Napoleon's broader strategy to establish French dominance in Europe and weaken Britain’s influence, but it also created tension and conflicts with other nations.
