Beractant
Beractant is a medication used to treat premature infants who have respiratory distress syndrome (RDS), a condition where their lungs lack enough surfactant. Surfactant is a natural substance that helps keep the lungs's tiny air sacs open, making it easier for the baby to breathe. Beractant is derived from animal lung tissue and works by replacing or supplementing the missing surfactant, improving breathing and oxygen exchange. It is administered directly into the baby's lungs through a breathing tube in a controlled medical setting to help stabilize their breathing and support lung development.
