BEP (Bleomycin, Etoposide, and Platinum) regimen
The BEP regimen is a combination chemotherapy treatment composed of Bleomycin, Etoposide, and Platinum (usually cisplatin or carboplatin). It's commonly used to treat germ cell tumors, such as testicular cancer. Each drug works differently: Bleomycin damages cancer cell DNA, Etoposide inhibits enzymes needed for cancer cell growth, and Platinum-based drugs interfere with DNA replication. Using all three together enhances the likelihood of destroying cancer cells more effectively. The regimen is administered in cycles, with periodic rest periods. While effective, it can cause side effects like lung issues, blood count drops, and kidney effects, so close monitoring is essential.
