Bee Sting Allergy
A bee sting allergy occurs when a person’s immune system reacts excessively to venom from bee stings, particularly from honeybees, bumblebees, or yellow jackets. This reaction can range from mild symptoms, like swelling and itching, to severe, life-threatening responses known as anaphylaxis. Anaphylaxis can cause difficulty breathing, rapid heartbeat, and swelling of the throat. Individuals with this allergy should avoid stings and carry an epinephrine auto-injector for emergencies. Consulting an allergist for testing and management strategies is recommended for those with a history of severe reactions.
