
Bede (the Venerable)
Bede, often referred to as "the Venerable Bede," was an English monk, historian, and scholar who lived in the 7th century (circa 673-735 AD). Renowned for his work in chronicle writing, he authored "Ecclesiastical History of the English People," which is a key source on early English history, particularly regarding the spread of Christianity. His scholarship laid the foundation for historical writing in England. Bede is also known for his contributions to biblical commentary and scientific thought, especially in areas like timekeeping and astronomy. He was canonized as a saint and is recognized as a Doctor of the Church.
