Battle of Tora Bora

The Battle of Tora Bora took place in late 2001 near the Tora Bora caves in Afghanistan, where U.S. and allied forces sought to capture Osama bin Laden following September 11 attacks. The mountainous terrain made it difficult to assault, and bin Laden was believed to be hiding there. Despite significant efforts, the coalition was unable to definitively find or kill him, and he escaped into Pakistan. The battle highlighted challenges of fighting in rugged terrain against adaptable enemies, and questions remain about whether a different approach could have closed the hunt more effectively.
