Battle of the Ardennes
The Battle of the Ardennes, also known as the Battle of the Bulge, was a major German surprise attack during World War II in December 1944. German forces aimed to divide Allied lines in the dense Ardennes Forest in Belgium and Luxembourg, catching the Allies off guard. Despite initial success and heavy fighting, the Allies regrouped and pushed the Germans back, marking the last major German offensive on the Western Front. The battle resulted in significant casualties but ultimately hastened the Allies' victory in Europe. It remains one of the largest and bloodiest battles fought by the United States in WWII.
