Battle of Passchendaele

The Battle of Passchendaele, also known as the Third Ypres, took place in Belgium from July to November 1917 during World War I. It was a major, grueling campaign fought between Allied forces (mainly Britain and her allies) and Germany. The battle aimed to break through German lines and advance into occupied territory. It is infamous for its muddy, waterlogged battlefield, massive casualties, and limited territorial gains. Despite heavy losses, the Allies succeeded in capturing the village of Passchendaele. The battle highlighted the brutal and often tragic nature of trench warfare and the difficulties of fighting in poor terrain conditions.
