Battle of Junín

The Battle of Junín, fought in 1824 in Peru, was a decisive conflict during South America's struggle for independence from Spain. Loyalist Spanish forces tried to suppress revolutionary armies led by Simón Bolívar. The battle took place on the high plains of Junín and was marked by unexpected tactics, including Bolívar's troops using a surprise attack with cavalry. The victory for the independence fighters helped weaken Spanish control in the region, paving the way for Peru’s eventual independence. It is considered a key turning point in South America's liberation movement.
