Battle of Diu
The Battle of Diu, fought in 1509 near the Gujarat coast, was a crucial naval clash between a Portuguese fleet and an alliance of Ottoman, Egyptian, and Gujarat Muslim ships. It marked Portugal’s dominance over Indian Ocean trade routes, establishing their control over key maritime areas. The Portuguese ships, using superior firepower and tactics, defeated the much larger allied fleet. This victory helped Portugal secure its influence in the Indian Ocean and prevented Muslim powers from challenging their trading interests, leading to Portugal becoming a major colonial and maritime power in Asia.
