Batten disease

Batten disease, also known as juvenile neuronal ceroid lipofuscinosis, is a rare genetic disorder that affects the nervous system. It typically starts in childhood, causing progressive vision loss, seizures, movement problems, and cognitive decline. The disease is caused by inherited mutations that lead to the buildup of harmful substances in nerve cells, damaging their function. Over time, this leads to the deterioration of mental and physical abilities. Currently, there’s no cure, but some treatments can help manage symptoms and improve quality of life. Early diagnosis is important for managing the condition and planning care.
