Bastion
A bastion refers to a fortified structure or projecting part of a fortress designed to provide a defensive position against attackers. In military architecture, it typically features a solid wall and allows defenders to fire upon foes from protected positions. Bastions were common in castle designs during the Renaissance and were built to enhance defense by creating angles for counter-fire. The term can also refer more broadly to anything that serves as a stronghold or protection for certain values, ideas, or principles.
