Basilica status

Basilica status refers to a special designation granted by the Pope to certain churches that hold significant historical, architectural, or spiritual importance. This title is often associated with large, impressive buildings that serve as important places for worship and pilgrimage. There are two types of basilicas: major and minor. Major basilicas are only four and are located in Rome, while minor basilicas can be found worldwide. This status allows the church to carry certain honors, such as the right to have a papal altar and to celebrate specific liturgical ceremonies, enhancing its recognition within the Catholic Church.
