Banting and Best
Frederick Banting and Charles Best were Canadian scientists who co-discovered insulin in 1921, a breakthrough in diabetes treatment. Banting, a surgeon, and Best, a medical student, worked together to isolate insulin from the pancreas, enabling the hormone to regulate blood sugar levels effectively. Their discovery transformed diabetes from a fatal disease into a manageable condition and earned them the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1923. This innovative work has saved millions of lives and laid the foundation for modern diabetes care.
