Band Ligation Technique
Band ligation is a medical procedure used to treat abnormal blood vessels or tissue in the digestive tract, often for bleeding or growths like hemorrhoids. It involves placing a small elastic band around the base of the targeted tissue using a specialized instrument during an endoscopy (a camera-based procedure). The band cuts off blood flow, causing the tissue to eventually die and fall off. This minimally invasive technique is effective, safe, and often performed on an outpatient basis, providing a targeted approach to controlling bleeding or removing problematic tissue in the gastrointestinal system.
