Balaena mysticetus

Balaena mysticetus, commonly known as the bowhead whale, is a large baleen whale native to Arctic and sub-Arctic waters. These magnificent creatures can live over 200 years and are known for their immense size, reaching up to 60 feet long and weighing up to 100 tons. Bowhead whales have a unique bow-shaped head that helps them break through sea ice. They primarily feed on tiny shrimp-like animals called zooplankton by filtering them through baleen plates in their mouths.
