Bajirao II

Bajirao II was the last Peshwa (prime minister) of the Maratha Empire in 19th-century India. His reign marked the decline of Maratha power amid increasing British influence. Facing military and political challenges, he struggled to maintain independence as the British East India Company expanded its control. In 1820, he was deposed and exiled to Bithoor, where he lived until his death in 1851. Bajirao II's tenure symbolizes the end of the Maratha Empire’s sovereignty and the beginning of direct British dominance in India.
