Ba'ath Party (Syria)
The Ba'ath Party in Syria is a political movement that promotes Arab nationalism, socialism, and unity. Established in the 1940s, it aimed to modernize Syria and strengthen Arab identity. In 1963, it seized power through a revolution, establishing a single-party state led by the Ba'athists. The party's leadership has been centralized, notably under President Hafez al-Assad and his son Bashar al-Assad, emphasizing control over political life, economy, and military. The Ba'ath Party's rule has been marked by authoritarianism, suppression of dissent, and involvement in regional conflicts such as the Syrian civil war.
