Ayodhya Ram Janmabhoomi Movement
The Ayodhya Ram Janmabhoomi movement is a socio-political movement in India centered around the site in Ayodhya believed by Hindus to be the birthplace of Lord Rama. Historically, a mosque called Babri Masjid was built there in the 16th century. Hindus claimed the site was historically a Hindu temple destroyed to build the mosque. The movement gained momentum during the 1980s and led to widespread protests, advocating for the temple’s reconstruction. In 1992, the mosque was demolished by a mob, causing communal riots. In 2019, the Indian Supreme Court awarded the disputed land for a Hindu temple, legally recognizing their historical and religious claims.
