Averroism
Averroism is a philosophical doctrine based on the ideas of the Arab scholar Averroes (Ibn Rushd), who lived in the 12th century. It emphasizes the compatibility of religion and reason, arguing that rational thought is essential for understanding truth. Averroes interpreted Aristotle’s works, advocating that philosophy could lead to knowledge that complements religious beliefs. One of its key ideas is the concept of "double truth," suggesting that truths from religion and philosophy can coexist, although they might differ. Averroism significantly influenced medieval European thought, especially among scholars in the Latin West.
