Australian funnel-web spiders

Australian funnel-web spiders are highly venomous spiders native to eastern Australia, known for their burrowing behavior and distinctive funnel-shaped webs. They are generally robust, with a shiny, dark, and hairy appearance, and are primarily active during warmer months. While their venom can be dangerous to humans, bites are rare and usually occur when the spider is provoked. Envenomation can cause serious symptoms, but antivenom is available. These spiders play a role in controlling insect populations and thrive in moist, forested, or suburban environments where they construct underground or surface silk retreats.
