Australian Broadcasting Authority

The Australian Broadcasting Authority (ABA), established in 1992, was a regulatory body responsible for overseeing broadcasting and telecommunications in Australia. Its main role was to ensure that television and radio services operated fairly and provided quality content to the public. The ABA set rules for licensees, promoted diversity in media ownership, and ensured compliance with broadcasting standards. In 2004, it merged with the Telecommunications Authority to form the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA), which continues to regulate broadcasting, telecommunications, and online content in Australia.
