Ataxia-telangiectasia (A-T)

Ataxia-telangiectasia (A-T) is a rare genetic disorder that affects the nervous system and immune system. It causes problems with coordination and balance (ataxia), often leading to difficulty walking and frequent falls. People with A-T also develop small, reddish spots called telangiectasias on their skin and eyes. The condition weakens the immune system, making infections more common. Additionally, individuals face a higher risk of developing certain cancers, especially leukemia and lymphoma. A-T is caused by mutations in a gene responsible for repairing DNA, leading to progressive neurological decline and other health challenges over time.
