Asiatic Lion

The Asiatic lion, scientifically known as Panthera leo persica, is a subspecies of lion found primarily in the Gir Forest of India. Unlike their African counterparts, Asiatic lions have a less developed mane and are slightly smaller in size. They are social animals that live in groups called prides, typically consisting of a few females and their young, along with one or more males. Historically widespread across Asia, their population is now limited, making them endangered. Conservation efforts have helped increase their numbers, but habitat loss and human-wildlife conflict remain significant challenges.
