Asherah (Canaanite mythology)

Asherah is a goddess from ancient Canaanite mythology, often associated with fertility, motherhood, and the sea. She is depicted as a mother figure and is sometimes referred to as the "Lady of the Sea." Asherah was worshipped alongside Baal, a prominent storm god. In archaeological findings, she is frequently represented by symbols like trees or wooden poles, known as "Asherah poles." Her worship included rituals and offerings, reflecting the Canaanites' reverence for nature and life cycles. Over time, her significance waned as monotheistic religions, particularly Judaism, became dominant.
