Ascariasis
Ascariasis is an infection caused by the roundworm Ascaris lumbricoides, which commonly affects people in areas with poor sanitation. The eggs are ingested through contaminated food or water, and once inside the body, the worms grow in the intestines. Symptoms can include swelling, nausea, abdominal pain, and sometimes coughing if the worms migrate into the lungs. Many individuals may not show symptoms. Treatment involves antiparasitic medications that effectively eliminate the worms. Improving sanitation and hygiene practices are key to preventing infection and reducing its spread.
