Article 35A

Article 35A was a provision in the Indian Constitution that granted certain special rights and privileges to residents of the state of Jammu and Kashmir, including land ownership, employment, and residency rights, based on their status as "permanent residents." It aimed to preserve the region's unique identity and demographic character. However, it was abrogated in August 2019 when the Indian government revoked the special status through a presidential order and the reorganization of the state into two separate Union Territories, Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh.
