Arius (theologian)

Arius was a Christian theologian in the 4th century who is known for challenging traditional views of Jesus Christ’s divine nature. He argued that Jesus was not fully God but rather a divine being created by God the Father, making him subordinate to God. This idea, called Arianism, sparked significant controversy within the early Church and led to debates about the nature of the Trinity—how God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit relate. The mainstream Christian doctrine eventually condemned Arius’s views, affirming that Jesus is fully divine and of the same substance as God, a belief formalized in the Nicene Creed.
