Aristotelian Physics
Aristotelian physics is an ancient framework that explains how the natural world works. Aristotle believed that objects have a natural place and tend to move toward it—like earthly objects falling or fire rising. He thought all motion required a cause, such as a force or purpose, and distinguished between natural motion (e.g., objects moving due to their nature) and violent motion (imposed by external force). This view emphasized qualities like rest and purpose in understanding motion, contrasting with later scientific ideas like inertia and gravity. Although outdated today, Aristotle’s physics laid foundational concepts for centuries of philosophical and scientific thought.
