Aristarchus of Samos

Aristarchus of Samos was an ancient Greek astronomer who proposed a revolutionary idea: that the Earth and other planets orbit the Sun, not the Earth. Around 270 BCE, he suggested a heliocentric model based on his observations and geometric calculations, challenging the long-held geocentric view that placed Earth at the universe's center. Although his ideas were not widely accepted in his time, his work laid important groundwork for later scientists like Copernicus, helping us understand the true structure of our solar system.
