Argos (mythology)

In Greek mythology, Argos refers to a few related concepts. Primarily, it is the name of a city in ancient Greece known for its heroes and warriors. Additionally, Argos is often associated with Argus Panoptes, a giant with a hundred eyes, tasked with guarding Io, a priestess of Hera. Argus symbolizes watchfulness and vigilance. In different myths, he is ultimately killed by Hermes but is transformed into the peacock by Hera, whose feathers display his eyes.
