ARF

ARF, or Acute Rheumatic Fever, is an inflammatory condition that can develop after a streptococcal throat infection (like strep throat). It occurs when the body's immune system mistakenly attacks its own tissues, particularly in the heart, joints, skin, and brain. This immune response causes symptoms such as fever, joint pain, skin rashes, and, in some cases, heart inflammation. ARF mainly affects children and young teens. Prompt treatment with antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medications can prevent serious complications, especially in the heart. It's important to treat strep infections early to reduce the risk of ARF.
