Archibald Cox

Archibald Cox was a prominent American-lawyer and legal scholar best known for his role as the special prosecutor during the Watergate scandal in the early 1970s. He was tasked with investigating, among other things, the break-in at the Democratic National Committee headquarters and the subsequent cover-up by the Nixon administration. Cox's insistence on upholding the rule of law and transparency led to a constitutional crisis when President Nixon tried to limit his investigation. Cox's stand ultimately contributed to Nixon's resignation, marking a significant moment for accountability in U.S. government.
