Archbishops of York
The Archbishops of York are senior bishops in the Church of England, serving as spiritual leaders of the northern region of England. Established in the 7th century, the Archbishop of York is the second-highest ranking bishop in the Church, after the Archbishop of Canterbury. This position carries significant religious authority and involvement in church governance. The Archbishop of York also plays a key role in national matters, offering guidance on moral issues and representing the church in the public sphere. The current Archbishop, since 2020, is Stephen Cottrell.
