Appeals Council

The Appeals Council is a part of the Social Security Administration in the United States that reviews decisions made by administrative law judges regarding Social Security disability benefits. If someone disagrees with a decision about their benefits, they can request a review by the Appeals Council. The Council evaluates whether the judge followed the law correctly and whether the decision was supported by evidence. It can either uphold the original decision, overturn it, or send it back for further review. This process provides an additional layer of oversight in the Social Security decision-making system.
