Apfel score
The Apgar score is a quick assessment given to newborns immediately after birth to evaluate their overall health and identify if they need urgent medical attention. It considers five factors: heart rate, breathing effort, muscle tone, reflex response, and skin color. Each factor is scored from 0 to 2, with a maximum total of 10. A higher score indicates a healthier baby. Usually, assessments are done at 1 and 5 minutes after birth to ensure the baby is adapting well outside the womb.
