ANZUS Treaty
The ANZUS Treaty is a security agreement formed in 1951 between Australia, New Zealand, and the United States. It aims to promote mutual defense and cooperation in the face of potential military threats. If one of the countries is attacked, the other members are expected to assist, though each country decides how to respond. The treaty reflects the shared interests of these nations in maintaining peace and security in the Asia-Pacific region. While it originally included New Zealand, tensions over nuclear policy have led to a more limited application of the treaty with New Zealand since the 1980s.
