Antigen Tests

Antigen tests detect specific proteins on the surface of a virus, such as the coronavirus. When someone is infected, these proteins are present in their nose or throat secretions. The test uses a swab to collect a sample, which is then applied to a test device. If the virus's antigens are present, the test shows a positive result quickly, often within 15-30 minutes. These tests are useful for rapid screening, especially in settings like workplaces or schools, but they may be less sensitive than molecular tests, meaning they can sometimes miss early or low-level infections.
