anti-SSB/La antibodies

Anti-SSB/La antibodies are specific immune proteins produced when the body's immune system mistakenly targets its own cells, particularly in autoimmune conditions like Sjögren’s syndrome or lupus. These antibodies attack a protein called La, found in certain cells' nuclei, leading to inflammation and tissue damage. Their presence helps doctors diagnose these autoimmune diseases and understand their activity. Essentially, anti-SSB/La antibodies are markers indicating the immune system is misidentifying and attacking parts of the body, which can contribute to symptoms like dry eyes, dry mouth, and joint pain.
